Transforming Lives Through Climate Resilience Initiatives

When Women Lead, Communities Thrive: Climate Resilience in Action

In Somalia’s arid landscapes, the impacts of climate change are felt daily—droughts, food insecurity, and displaced communities. But amidst these challenges, women are leading the charge for climate resilience. At the Consortium of Women-Led Humanitarian Organizations, we are redefining the role of women in addressing one of the most pressing global crises.

Meet Hawa, a farmer in the Bay region. For years, her harvests dwindled due to erratic rainfall. Through our programs, Hawa received training on sustainable farming practices and climate adaptation. Today, she’s not just a successful farmer but a role model in her community.
“The knowledge I gained helped me protect my crops and feed my family, even during droughts,” she says.

Our approach goes beyond technical training. By integrating climate resilience with economic empowerment, we equip women like Hawa with resources such as drought-resistant seeds, water management systems, and access to markets. These efforts create a ripple effect, improving food security and strengthening community resilience.

When women are empowered to lead in climate action, entire communities benefit. From reducing greenhouse gas emissions to improving disaster preparedness, our work shows that women are not just victims of climate change—they are vital agents of change.
