Title: Beyond Services: How We’re Redefining Health for Somali Women
At the Consortium of Women-Led Humanitarian Organizations, we believe that health is more than just access to services—it’s about creating a holistic environment where women and girls can thrive.
In the bustling village of Afmadow, our health outreach programs are bridging gaps in access to sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). These services, often inaccessible in rural areas, are critical for empowering women to take charge of their well-being.
What makes our approach unique is its community-driven nature. Rather than imposing solutions, we work hand-in-hand with women, men, and local leaders to identify their needs and co-create programs. For instance, we recently launched a mobile health clinic that travels to underserved regions, providing lifesaving maternal care and family planning services.
But it’s not just about treatment. Education is a cornerstone of our strategy. From workshops on menstrual health to sessions on GBV prevention, we empower women with knowledge that can transform their lives.
Our impact is evident in the stories we hear. Halima, a young mother from Mudug, shares:
“For the first time, I feel like I have control over my health and my future. The support from the consortium gave me confidence I never thought I’d have.”
Health is the foundation of a thriving society, and through innovation, collaboration, and compassion, we are working toward a future where every Somali woman and girl has the opportunity to live with dignity and vitality.
